It was only four days before Christmas.
I filled my shopping cart and walked to the long checkout lines.I picked the shortest but it looked as if it would mean at least a 20-minutes wait.In front of me were two small children-a boy about 5 years old and a young girl.The boy wore a ragged coat.Enormously large,worn down tennis shoes didn't match with his much too short Jeans.The girl's clothing was like her brother's.She carried a beautiful pair of shiny golden house slippers.
When we finally came to the cashier,the girl carefully placed the shoes on the counter.
"That will be $6.09."The clerk said.
The boy laid his crumpled dollars on the counter while he searched his pockets.But he only had $3.12.
"I guess we wil come other time,may be tomorrow."
A soft sob broke from the little girl."But Jesus would have loved these shoes."she cried.
"Well,we'll go home and work some more.Don't cry,we'll come back."The boy said.
