一个英语语句结构问题.
Moreover,demographers see the continuing shift south and west as joined by a related but newer phenomenon.具体的结构不太会分析.主要是as joined by...,这个结构不太明白.

shift有动词性,但是在这里不是动词.
这不是see…doing的结构,即continuing不是做动词ing用,如果做动词ing用,前面就不用加the（定贯词）了.
而且如果continuing是动词ing形式,而shift也做动词的话,应该是continuing to shift.

1.shift在这里作名词用,south and west是副词,做后置定语（副词作定语修饰名词,需要后置,如the news abroad,the people there）
注：south and west也可以作名词,如the south and west of Europe.
continuing本身就有形容词词性,做shift的前置定语.
2.see……as结构,把这个西方和南方的持续迁移看做……
这里as作副词用,不是引导从句.
用法是as,adv.
[后接形容词或分词]被认为,被看作是,(从某种方式)与…对比时;
[后接 directed,agreed,promised 等分词]照…一样,按照(规定的、同意的、答应的)方式;
如,this definition as distinguished from the second one 这个定义与第二个有区别；
as agreed按商定...as compared with和----比起来
3.join,参加,加入,会合,连接……,是说这个迁移被融入了相关的新现象.
4.join加ed是表示动宾关系,但不是与phenonmenon,是说shift被join
