In the mid-1920’s the Hawthorne Works of the Western Electric Company was the scene of an intensive series of experiments (to investigate what the effects changes in working conditions would have onworkers’ performance.)

A:what自身就是一个实意名词,如:what is ur name?(主语what、谓语is、宾语ur name),E中what与the effects共存,犯了双主语的语法错误.
to investigate what(做have宾语) changes in working conditions would have on workers’ performance
或:
to investigate the effects changes in working conditions would have on workers’ performance
