为什么the name of the girl后面不用加's,而the friend of my father's后面要加?

Girl 与太阳,地球,动物等一样是一个普通名词,of + the 就构成所有格.My father 就不同,必须用's才能构成所有格.不过如果说the father,the mother 就不用加‘s了.
