There is an English proverb which says “Honesty is the best policy.” It signifies the importance of honesty.Honesty refers to the quality of a person who tells the truth and works without deception. Honesty is a virtue admired everywhere, while dishonesty is generally despised and condemned. If you want to win the trust and respect from others, you have to be honest. People are ready to help and make friends with honest people whereas a liar is not believed, even when he speaks the truth. If you want to succeed in your studies and in work, the first qualification is honesty. Therefore, whatever you aim is, you must work honestly to achieve it.
Nowadays, many people choose not to be honest. We can find dishonest behavior almost every day of our lives: Some students cheat in exams for higher marks; some corporations issue wrong data to the public in order to get more investment; and some doctors treat their patients with unnecessary expensive medicines in order to make more money, sometimes endangering the patients’health and even their lives. However, such people will be punished sooner or later, even though they benefit from their dishonest behavior for the time being.
This situation must be changed. Dishonesty does great harm to society whereas honesty will benefit not only others but also ourselves. First, your honesty will win trust from others. Second, being honest will allow you to face your problem bravely, which helps to solve it. And last, honesty, which is the traditional virtue of the Chinese people, can make our life easier and more harmonious. For example, consumers will not be afraid of being overcharged if dealers are honest, and thus dealers can win over more customers.
It goes without saying that being honest is of great benefit to both the community and individuals. There is no doubt that we should foster the spirit of honesty. In conclusion, laying stress on honesty will become the public morals in our society.
So I think everyone should try to be honest in whatever he says and does. We should always keep it in mind that our society cannot prosper and thrive without honesty.
