Education should not only provide students with knowledge they need when they enter the society,but also,directed by the thought of lifelong educaton,develop their ability to study further so that they can acquire knowledge continously after they leave school.
请问,其中的directed 和develop分别作什么成分?develop前面不应该加连词吗?一个句子必须要用连词才可以啊?

develop和前面的provide并列,都作为should do用法中的do,它们的连词就是but also
而directed by the thought of lifelong educaton,作为插入语,用来修饰它后面的那句话,这种用法的标志就是插入语被两个逗号隔开了.其实把插入语拿掉,就能清楚地看到句子的结构了.
