　　Because 从句中的主语they指代the old examples of alphabetic writing（表音文字的古代范例）,but 后的句子意思是说“因为它们用一种模糊的字母符号写成,所以这些范例（examples）不能完全被翻译出来”.所谓“不能完全被翻译”意思是指有的可以翻译,而不是所有的表音文字（alphabetic writing）都不能翻译.因此,此处不能用 it 指代,而应该用复数名词 the old examples 或代词 they.
 
2. Swimmer Mark Spitz was the most decorated athelete of the 1972 Summer Olympic (Games, he won seven gold medals)
 
　　1）原句是两个句子,两个句子不能用逗号分隔独立存在,而是要用必要的语法手段使它们成为一个句子.这种手段有——
用连词and连接为并列句：Games and he won seven gold medals
用连词分号连接为并列句：Games; he won seven gold medals
用状语从句：Games, because he won seven gold medals
用分词短语作为状语：B. Games, winning seven gold medals
　　这里的“他获得七枚奖牌”是“Mark Spitz所以成为the most decorated athelete”的原因,因此只能用because从句或分词短语表述原因.
　　2）C. Games by winning seven gold medals 中的介词by表述的原因是“借助于某种方法”,如果用此项,就是说“Mark Spitz是借助于获得七枚奖牌”才“成为the most decorated athelete”.显然是不对的.
 
3. Perched atop a sandstone mesa, Acoma Pueblo is the oldest inhabited community in North (Ametica, currently a population of) about fifteen families.
 
　　本句的结构为——
 
过去分词短语做状语：Perched atop a sandstone mesa, （= Because Acoma Pueblo is perched atop a sandstone mesa）
主体结构：Acoma Pueblo is the oldest inhabited community in North (Ametica,
副词currently修饰的名词短语：currently a population of) about fifteen families.【可见此处有错】
 
　　1）改为D. America, whose current population is about fifteen families,虽然whose从句成分完整,但是带有whose 的current population 指的是当前的人口总数,因此不能用families（家族）来描述,而应该用个体数.
　　2）改为E. America and currently has population of 后,前后两个句子成了并列句.这里的population of 既可以指“...的人口总数”,也可以指的是“...的群体总数”,即“由于在砂岩山顶上栖息,艾可玛普埃布洛族是北美最古老的居住群体,而且这个民族当前有大约15个家族群体”
再问： 那再请问第一题里的are为什么不用were呢？既然那个东东都4000years old了，应该是以前写的呀？
再答： 指它现在看到的形式是 in an obscure alphabet, 所以用 are，如果改为 they were written by ... in ancientry (在古代被...被写的)，就是 were。
