I can't give a word-to-word translation for Associate Professor. At German universities we have lecturers who we call "Dozent". These positions however don't necessarily need to hold a PhD and are mostly only contracted per semester. These are people who are often hired for their hands-on experience and their industry insights.
All the professors however are simply addressed "Professor". We don't distinguish between different career levels.
