A little hen lived at the edge of a forest,She lived all by herself and did all her work on her own.Close by lived a middle-aged fox and his old mother.One day,the fox and his mother had nothing to eat at home.He had been too lazy to look for food for a few days and he wonderedhow to get some food without going too far.Then he remembered the hen.So he said to his mother,”Ihave a plan to catch that hen for food.I will catch her and put her inside this bag.Place a pot on fire and put some water into it.We will boil her for dinner tonight.” Saying so,he went to the house of the hen quietly.
The hen came out to pick up wood for the fire and left the door open while doing so.The fox went in quietly.She did not see him.Hehid behind the door.The fox went to her from behind,and then suddenly caught her and put her into the big bag.With a happy smile on his face,he began to walk backto his home.He was so happy thathe paid no attention to the movements inside the bag.The hen took out her sharp little knife from her pocket,cut a hole in the bag and jumped out.But at once she picked up a big,heavy stone and droppedit in the bag.
When the fox reached his home,he shouted,“Mother,Mother,is the water boiling?I have got the hen.:”Yes,it is boiling now,just right for the hen,”replied the mother.Then the fox held the bag over the boiling water.The stone fell into the hot water.It made the water splash onto the fox and his mother,killing them both.
