UNCLE BLUEY’S SLIPPER
On that north-west-facing farm veranda
Sun came blazing early to my cramped cot
and bush flies clustered on the warmed flesh.
So bedclothes damp I began to snivel,
futile bladder distending once again,
waking Uncle Bluey in his dark stone room,
remote but not remote enough to slumber
though.Two mornings I persisted,
he resisted—leaving mother to restore peace.
The third morning he’d had enough.Picked
up one of this leather slippers and came out
hauling dungarees over a flannel nightshirt..
To an observer ,detached,the noise of thwacks
would have sounded innocent as wing flaps of
wedgetails startled from the carcase of a lamb.
And ever after that anyone could terrify me
to do anything they damn well wished to command—
just had to whisper the words：‘Slipper Man’!

在那面向西北的农场走廊
炽热的太阳早早光临我的狭小的摇篮

拿起一双皮拖鞋并且出来了
拖着法兰绒斜纹睡衣..
为了一个观察员,分离的,重击的噪声
会响起天真的如拍打翅膀的
楔形尾巴震惊从羊羔的尸身.
而且从那以后,任何人都可以让我害怕
做任何事情,他们也希望去该死的命令
刚轻声细语的说：'拖鞋人'!
