上周末,我和其它上海英文报小记者一起参观了位于谈家渡路的上海解放日报报业集团印刷厂.工厂一共有三层,我们从第二层开始参观,一推开工作车间的大门,震耳欲聋的声音便随之而来,在这里解说员为我们详细的说明了一份报纸从收集材料,排版到制版的详细过程.我们还了解到我们平时所看的一些著名的报纸都是从这里被打印出来的.不一会儿,我们就来到了三楼,这里的机器负责把打印好的报纸打包,一捆报纸有二百五十份.我细心数了一下,一份报纸从打印开始到被包扎好,一共需要大概四五分钟的时间.但集成车间最严重的是气味十分难闻刺鼻,不出十分钟,我就已经受不了了.一份实时新闻的报纸从凌晨两三点开始就要开始准备了,打印间和集成间的工作人员也都要时刻准备着,所以这里的工人是十分幸苦的,也正是这个原因,一路参观下来竟然没有看见一个女工作人员.无论怎样,从这次参观里,我了解到了许多关于报纸制作的事,也体会到了一份报纸的来之不易,我以后也决不再浪费报纸了!

Last weekend, several other Shanghaies English reporters and I visited the Shanghai Liberation Daily News Publisher Manufactory which is located on Tan Jiadu Road. It is a gigantic three-floor building. We started our visit on the second floor. As soon as the work shop’s gate opened in front of us, along with deafening hubbub, all of us were just shocked by this amazing scene. The guide narrator gave us an elaborate expound about the intricate process of typesetting newspaper and making of the final product. Many famous newspaper companies are associated with this publishing plant. Few moments late, we proceeded to the third floor, where the advanced machines pack up the newspaper into firm, small packages, each contains two hundred and fifty lot of newspaper. I noticed that a sheet of newspaper takes approximately four to five minutes to be packed. But the integration workshop is severely contaminated with a pungent stench, which I could not bear for more than ten minutes. It is simply insufferable! The narrator then implied that the preparation of a live newspaper must starts before three o’clock on the morning. Workers from both workshops must attend their position, so made their job a tough one; this also might be the cause that we didn’t see a single female worker all the way along the visit. However, from this experience, I understood many details about publishing newspapers, and also realize how appreciable those papers are. I will never waste a single paper again!
