1、That he finished writing this composition in such a short time surprised us all.
这句话的时态finish 不应该用完成时吗?如下：
That he had finished writing this composition in such a short time surprised us all.
2、Because there is nothing to do,we played games.
这句话根据played时态,前面不应该用一般过去式吗?如下：
Because there was nothing to do,we played games.

原句是:.in such a short time:在如此短的时间里,这不是过去的某一时刻,就是在陈述一个事实,一个情况,“他能在这么短的时间内完成另我们很惊讶”,所以不能用过去完成时；
2)用过去式的情况：
Because we finished our homework,we played games.
这里就应该用过去式,“我们玩游戏”是因为“我们已经做完了家庭作业”,这是个过去发生的动作.
原句是：“there is nothing to do",这句话不含有过去发生的动作,“没有什么事,所以我们玩了游戏”,“没有什么事”这是一个事实,不存在过去的动作,所以用现在时!
