如make himself understood 而非 make himself understand.能解释一下原因吗?

只要不是主动做的,就要用被动形式.
使得他明白,而不是他自己明白的
就如
have the bread toasted, 面包不是自己烤自己吧,而是被烤箱烤
如果是他自己明白,那就不用加make了,而是：after explaining, we hope he will understand.
