Micro devices assembly and MEMS are two distinctly
different but related areas.Micro-electro Mechanical
Systems (MEMS) are mechanisms that generally
incorporate silicon based mechanical and electrical
components.Currently the most common technique
used to fabricate MEMS devices involves selectively
etching away parts of a silicon wafer or adds new
structural layers to form the mechanical and
electromechanical devices.Part designs,which are
complex in shape and require the use of material of
varying properties,cannot be manufactured using
MEMS technology; in such situations,assembly of
micron-sized parts is necessary.This field,which
focuses on the assembly of such tiny,micron sized
parts,can be described as ‘Micro Devices Assembly’
(MDA).
