Aeschylus was a tragedian and a poet of ancient Greece, at the time slave owner democracy came into being. His masterpiece is the trilogy known as The Oresteia. One of the trilogy is Prometheus Bound which is based on the myth of Prometheus, a Titan who was punished by the god Zeus for giving fire to mankind. It reveals struggle between democracy and despotism and eulogise Prometheus for his lofty spirits.
As a playwright, Aeschylus made important contributions to the Greek tradedy. He is considered the first Greek dramatist to add a second actor to the performance; emphasized the dialogue in his play; pioneered in the use of special costumes; decorated cothurnus(high Greek sandal); and sort of setting for his plays for dramatic effect. Thanks to his transformation, the structures and the features of greek tragedy began to emerge. Aeschylus has come down to us through history as "the father of Greek tragedy"
