Jean laffite was a frenchman whom became a smuggler and a pirate along the coast of New Orleans in the early 1800s.He and his brother raid Spainsh and neutral ships in the Gulf of Mexico with a fleet of ships at his command.In 1814 when the British were at war with the United States,the wanted him to help the attack New Orleans.However,he choosed to in form the United States of the British plans and offer their services to fight against england.Laffite fighted under General Andrew Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans.Although he receved a pardon from President Madison,Laddite returen to a life of piracy.
