英语中,我经常搞不懂副词到底是怎么来用.
例如：
1、I'm totally absorbed in building this bookcase.
这个时候用的副词是修饰be动词的吗?还是修饰后来的形容词?我常看到be动词后面有副词,可是不知道为什么、
2、generally,he made a big progress.
常常看到句首开头用副词,又是在什么时候需要用呢?
3、副词除了修饰动词,是否还有其他作用呢?能否举一些例子呢?

副词用以修饰动词、形容词和其他副词,也可以修饰整个句子.
关于问题中的例子：
1.totally用于修饰句中的absorbed,即是程度副词修饰形容词,表示“完全”,在句中表示专心的程度.
2.generally在句中做副词修饰整个句子,相同的情况我可以举几个例子：
Suddenly it began to rain.
也可以说：It began to rain suddenly.
可见修饰整个句子的副词不一定要放在句首.
