Most people have heard of power corrupts, but why it occurs and how to prevent it are what we are concerned.
Power is the core part of getting things done, which can be taken advantage by all kinds of leaders. Some leaders may use power to benefit the society, whereas quite a number of leaders may turn to their power to acquire their personal goal. For instance, Wen Qiang, the former police officer in Chongqing, used his power to seek for personal gain at the expense of sarcrifing the society’s interest.
There are several factors contributiong to the reasons of power corrupts. Apart from the leaders’ personal immority, lacking of supervision plays the primary role in power corrupts. It is assumed that unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it. Particularly when the leaders fear nothing of the community or even their higher authority.
What we can do to solve this disturbing problem? First and formost, it is essential to evolve and consolidate our supervision system, including making relevant laws and implementing such laws or regulations. Also, the society should be stimulated to engage in paying more attention to leaders’ behavior. Only by the whole society’s cooperation can power corrupts be decreased at the very least, if can not be eliminated at all.
