MY experience as a volunteer
Last winter holiday, I did many kinds of things for old people which made me very happy.
Nowadays, the number of old people in our country becomes bigger and bigger. Many old people can't live on themselves. They have to rely on others. On the other hand, some of their children are working too busy to take care of their parents. As a result, old people are becoming lonely. We high school students can help them in our spare time. It will make us happy and increase our experience to help others. For example, we can get knowledge by chatting with old people. We can get to know more about the history thirty or forty years ago. About which we can know only by history books.
I helped others at weekends in last winter holidays. One Sunday afternoon, I went to visit Mr. Li who was 85 years old. Mr. Li was a soldier 60 years ago. He stayed at home all day long, and he didn't want to watch TV all day long. He just wanted to have a talk with someone. When I heard the news, I went to see him. In 2 hours, I did not see a word, just listening. Mr. Li had been telling me stories one by one which happened 60 years ago. He was satisfied with my silence. I also got much useful knowledge which I could not learn by books.
Winter holiday passed. Now, I am at school again. I think I have more knowledge. I will continue to help others next holiday.
