I was delighted to receive 2 books for Christmas which were "China
based"--"The good Women of China" by Xinran was easy to read,
reinforced our
knowledge of Chinese life-style that we had already experienced,and
was
also enlightening.The other book "China Shakes the World --The rise of
a
hungry Nation",I am still reading.This is written by Western author
James
Kynge and is a revelation to anyone who knows little about the Chinese
economy.I am intrigued and can certainly see that China`s economic
potential is mindblowing.China`s major strength seems to be its
determination and work ethic The biggest negative in the book seems to
focus on excessive population affecting the labour force,and the
pollution
of the environment.We are all concerned with the future of our world.
The
West is guilty of our earth`s sabotage and it seems that the East may
follow.Perhaps if Mr Bush and Mr Blair set an example--there may be
some
hope for the future of our world.It was scarey to hear the latest news
of a
large ice-shelf breaking away from the arctic as a result of global
warming.
Our climate in the Uk is changing--something we are concerned
about--especially for future generations
We usually spend New Year`s Eve partying with friends.This year was no
different.Two of our friends (ex-colleagues) held a themed party based
on
the film "Borat" set in the Eastern block.Fancy dress was expected.
We
enjoyed meeting many new friends.Feren,an ex-student from Ludong
University ,now studying for her MA at York University,came with us.
She
was able to converse with our friends` son Jay.He`s 21years old and is
studying Mandarin at Durham university.Just having Feren visit our
home
somehow brings us closer to you in Weifang!How are you Linda?
Our days are full doing everything and nothing.We miss China very
much!and
