关于一个英语句子的句法问题
Immediately inside the first thing shoppers may come to is the fresh fruit and vegetables secton.
翻译：进入到这里的第一件事,消费者可能会来到果蔬区.
疑问：Immediately inside the first thing 在句中作什么成分?感觉和后面的内容不是很衔接.
后半句我的理解是 shoppers may come to （where） is the fresh fruit and vegetables secton.是一个省略where的宾语从句,where在从句中作主语,表示消费者可能来到一个（地方）,这个（地方）是果蔬区.这是一个完整的句子.我不明白的就是这句话前面的部分和这句之间构成什么关系,为什么没有连接词或者谓语动词做衔接.

我自己的理解：
中学学过个句型叫the first thing to do…is…，做某事首先要做的是…，这里是动词不定式作后置定语修饰first thing。
而我的问题句中是the first thing （shoppers may come to）is…，从结构上和上面很相似，那括号中的也必然是定语，既然是句子，那就是定语从句。
这点我当然是能够联想到，但问题是，the first thing在从句中充当什么成分呢？come to thing？？显然不能搭配吧，显然是come to （do）thing吧。但是从句中没有do，那么定语从句就不成立，因为the first thing在从句中找不到自己的位置，就必然不是先行词。
所以我才有了开头的问题，并且产生了下面的理解，shoppers may come to （where） is the fresh fruit and vegetables secton。即把这个当做了宾语从句来理解。当然正如harttr先生所说，to后边不跟副词，所以就本句而言，显然也不是宾语从句，只能是定语从句。所以又绕回来，the first thing在从句中作什么成分的问题了，难道是do可以省略？
