有没有context and meaning的论文啊?有没有context and meaning的论文啊?
Before you can start thinking critically about what you read, you have to understand the meanings of the words you are reading. You will often come across words whose meanings you do not know. What is the best way to figure out the meaning of a new word?Do you always need to get out a dictionary and spend time looking the word up?
Fortunately, there is another way that often works. You may be able to figure out the meaning of a word from its context that is,by looking carefully at the rest of the sentence or at the sentences around it,and seeing how the word fits in.
Suppose, for example, you are told that someone has used legumes to prepare a vegetable soup.By looking at the context of the word “legumes,” you can easily guess that legumes are some kind of vegetable. This meaning for “legumes” fits in best with the context of the rest of the sentence.
Everybody uses this “context clue” method of finding the meanings of new words quite naturally. In fact, you probably learned most of the words you know this way.But you use this method most often on spoken words. This is because when you hear a new word being spoken, you also hear the rest of the sentence. And you get the full context of the word.
When you read an unfamiliar word, however, you may tend to give up right there. And you may skip over the entire sentence in which it occurs. As a result, you miss the context that might have given you a clue to the meaning.
The paragraph below will give you practice in using context clues to figure out the meanings of unfamiliar words.Read each sentence carefully, especially if you don’t know the meaning of the underlined word. And even if you do know the meaning of one of these words, look carefully at its context anyway.Notice how the context would help someone who didn’t know the word’s meaning.
At the end of the paragraph, you will find several possible meanings for the underlined words.Use the context of the paragraph itself to help you guess which meaning is correct.
King Tutankhamen,or King Tut,lived in ancient Egypt about 3,200 years ago.
Although he was probably not an important king, the discovery of his tomb in 1922 was a very important event. The excavation of the tomb showed the world for the first time how treasures were buried with the ancient Egyptian pharaohs.
