VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are considered as a large class of air pollutants that can give rise to many envi- ronmental problems . The increasing amounts of VOCs released in the environment, together with their tox- icity and carcinogenic properties, are required researchers to find an effective method of destruction. Catalytic com- bustion is an effcient way to convert VOCs to CO2 and H2O at low temperature . Precious metals such as Pt, Pd and Ru are well-known highly active catalysts for the oxidation of VOCs . It is generally accepted that a novel VOCs catalyst should give attention to two things: the lower temperatures activity and a high thermal stabil- ity. However, in most of the cases, there exists a large tem- perature gradient in a catalytic reactor from 300°C up to 1300°C and various VOCs combustion catalysts are required to cover the wide temperature range . When the operational temperatures are above 1000°C, it would lead to catalysts sintered in their active-site particles, and a concomitant decrease in their catalytic active. Usually, the most commonly used support is Al2O3, which in some cases does not ensure a suffcient thermal stability . In this sense, there is a strong demand for development of new, thermally stable, low-cost materials as support and catalysts for the VOCs combustion .
