Fashion Design Womenswear
This pathway is for students who wish to pursue careers as innovative designers and who require a clear understanding and experience of generating,developing and realising a wide variety of creative ideas to a professional standard.You will be encouraged to develop your personal design vision set in the context of womenswear design for existing and expanding national and international fashion markets which incorporate both classic and innovative design concepts.Throughout the programme of study emphasis is placed on professionalism,innovation and creativity which will enable you to develop and realise your design skills in a continuously evolving manner.You will be educated in various design skills which will inform and support your creativity.These will include research methods; flat pattern cutting; modelling on the stand; garment construction; tailoring processes and finishing; drawing,illustration and presentation skills.Your awareness and understanding of the diversity of the womenswear industry will be widened and enhanced through targeted projects and the guidance of full time and associate lecturers who are specialists in this market.The curriculum is designed to enable you to understand and meet differing design challenges.
Fashion Print
Students on the Fashion Print Pathway learn to design and produce their own fabric as well as designing,cutting and making garments both for women or menswear.What distinguishes the work from other pathways is that the garments are fabric lead,the most successful examples resulting from the evolution of fabric and silhouette in tandem,rather than one element being imposed on the other.
The term ‘print’ is interpreted very broadly to embrace decoration and embellishment of all kinds.This might include embroidery,beading,laser cutting,bonding and any type of print process,or indeed any new technique a student might care to invent.
Colour,placement and scale are the key elements in designing for Fashion Print ,coupled with an understanding of materials and technique and the way that fabric behaves on the body.
